Hidden Beach Paradise You Had No Idea Existed

We all dream of visiting Fiji, Bora Bora and the Maldives for the crystal clear blue waters and white soft sand. Between the amount of money it takes and distance we all wonder if we will ever have the chance to visit the paradise that has a special place in our dreams. The wonderful news is that you do not have to travel as far as you think to discover these crystal clear waters. Beach Paradise

Many agree that Mexico has some amazingly beautiful beaches, but not many would guess that this is where the picture on your right was taken. Almost everyone knows that Cancun and the entire Riviera Maya has famous spots that can be considered some of the best beaches in the world. The truth is we know they exist. Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel and Acapulco are places we have all heard of a time or two and most likely have already visited.

What beach could possibly more magnificent than these famous shores? The hidden treasure I am speaking of can be found amidst the Mexican desert of Baja California and turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez on the Island of Espíritu Santo. The island is in front of the city of La Paz located in the Baja California Peninsula. La Paz on it’s own is not an impressive vacation spot and is more of an industrial hub for locals. Now having lived in Cabo San Lucas, however, I know where the locals go and the best kept secrets of the area.

Swimming with Sea LionsLa Paz is only a two hour drive from Cabo San Lucas and with the newly constructed highway makes it is easier than ever to get to. Once you make it to the city you just take a boat tour to the island and have the time of your life! One of the activities you are able to do on the island is swim with sea lions! Imagine, we are not talking in an aquarium this is the open crystal clear waters of the Sea of Cortez. During certain times of the year you can also swim with Whale Sharks that swim off the shores of La Paz. Sometimes on the tours you are lucky enough to see giant stingrays jumping out of the water showing off their smile and even dolphins that come up to say hello. There is such a richness of sea life surrounding the area; no wonder the Sea of Cortez is known as the aquarium of the world.

The island itself is filled with many surprises around every bay. When we went to what I call, ‘Paradise Beach,’ I was not expecting those gorgeous crystal clear waters. In fact, when you start heading towards the beach you are not able to see how beautiful the water truly is until you move in closer. The water is so gorgeous that you swear it is personally inviting you for a swim. We jumped off the boat before reaching the shore just to take in the clear blue sea. DSCN1719

The pictures do not do the place justice. I am always amazed at the beauty found hidden around every corner in Mexico and I know people would be shocked to see all the country has to offer. The vista alone will blow you away. ‘Where the Grand Canyon meets the sea’ is how I would choose to describe the overall environment. Amazing to think that I have never seen this on any lists of ‘Places You Have to Add to Your Bucket List’ or ‘Top 10 Beautiful Beaches.’ To be honest, I am glad that it is not ‘well known’ and even though I would like to believe thousands of people will read this, I know my humble blog will not turn this hidden gem into a major tourist attraction.
